In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
055.001
YUSUFALI: (Allah) Most Gracious!
PICKTHAL: The Beneficent
SHAKIR: The Beneficent Allah,
KHALIFA: The Most Gracious.
055.002
YUSUFALI: It is He Who has taught the Qur'an.
PICKTHAL: Hath made known the Qur'an.
SHAKIR: Taught the Quran.
KHALIFA: Teacher of the Quran.
055.003
YUSUFALI: He has created man:
PICKTHAL: He hath created man.
SHAKIR: He created man,
KHALIFA: Creator of the human beings.
055.004
YUSUFALI: He has taught him speech (and intelligence).
PICKTHAL: He hath taught him utterance.
SHAKIR: Taught him the mode of expression.
KHALIFA: He taught them how to distinguish.
055.005
YUSUFALI: The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;
PICKTHAL: The sun and the moon are made punctual.
SHAKIR: The sun and the moon follow a reckoning.
KHALIFA: The sun and the moon are perfectly calculated.

YUSUFALI: And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration.
PICKTHAL: The stars and the trees prostrate.
SHAKIR: And the herbs and the trees do prostrate (to Him).
KHALIFA: The stars and the trees prostrate.
055.007
YUSUFALI: And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of
Justice),
PICKTHAL: And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure,
SHAKIR: And the heaven, He raised it high, and He made the balance
KHALIFA: He constructed the sky and established the law.
055.008
YUSUFALI: In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance.
PICKTHAL: That ye exceed not the measure,
SHAKIR: That you may not be inordinate in respect of the measure.
KHALIFA: You shall not transgress the law.
055.009
YUSUFALI: So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.
PICKTHAL: But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof.
SHAKIR: And keep up the balance with equity and do not make the measure deficient.
KHALIFA: You shall establish justice; do not violate the law.
055.010
YUSUFALI: It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures:
PICKTHAL: And the earth hath He appointed for (His) creatures,
SHAKIR: And the earth, He has set it for living creatures;
KHALIFA: He created the earth for all creatures.

YUSUFALI: Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates);
PICKTHAL: Wherein are fruit and sheathed palm-trees, SHAKIR: Therein is fruit and palms
having sheathed clusters, KHALIFA: In it there are fruits, and date palms with their
hanging fruit.

YUSUFALI: Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants.
PICKTHAL: Husked grain and scented herb.
SHAKIR: And the grain with (its) husk and fragrance.
KHALIFA: Also grains and the spices.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: (O humans and jinns,) which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,
PICKTHAL: He created man of clay like the potter's,
SHAKIR: He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels,
KHALIFA: He created the human from aged clay, like the potter's clay.

YUSUFALI: And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke:
PICKTHAL: And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire.
SHAKIR: And He created the jinn of a flame of fire.
KHALIFA: And created the jinns from blazing fire.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: (O humans and jinns,) which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests:
PICKTHAL: Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests!
SHAKIR: Lord of the East and Lord of the West.
KHALIFA: Lord of the two easts and the two wests.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together:
PICKTHAL: He hath loosed the two seas. They meet.
SHAKIR: He has made the two seas to flow freely (so that) they meet together:
KHALIFA: He separates the two seas where they meet.

YUSUFALI: Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress:
PICKTHAL: There is a barrier between them. They encroach not (one upon the other).
SHAKIR: Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass.
KHALIFA: A barrier is placed between them, to prevent them from transgressing.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Out of them come Pearls and Coral:
PICKTHAL: There cometh forth from both of them the pearl and coral-stone.
SHAKIR: There come forth from them pearls, both large and small.
KHALIFA: Out of both of them you get pearls and coral.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR: Which then of
the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains:
PICKTHAL: His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners.
SHAKIR: And His are the ships reared aloft in the sea like mountains.
KHALIFA: He gave you ships that roam the sea like flags.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?
055.026
YUSUFALI: All that is on earth will perish:
PICKTHAL: Everyone that is thereon will pass away;
SHAKIR: Everyone on it must pass away.
KHALIFA: Everyone on earth perishes.

YUSUFALI: But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and
Honour.
PICKTHAL: There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory.
SHAKIR: And there will endure for ever the person of your Lord, the Lord of glory and
honor.
KHALIFA: Only the presence of your Lord lasts. Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in
(new) Splendour doth He (shine)!
PICKTHAL: All that are in the heavens and the earth entreat Him. Every day He exerciseth
(universal) power.
SHAKIR: All those who are in the heavens and the earth ask of Him; every moment He is in a
state (of glory).
KHALIFA: Imploring Him is everyone in the heavens and the earth. Every day He is in full
control.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?
055.031
YUSUFALI: Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both ye worlds!
PICKTHAL: We shall dispose of you, O ye two dependents (man and jinn).
SHAKIR: Soon will We apply Ourselves to you, O you two armies.
KHALIFA: We will call you to account, O humans and jinns.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?
055.033
YUSUFALI: O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the
heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!
PICKTHAL: O company of jinn and men, if ye have power to penetrate (all) regions of the
heavens and the earth, then penetrate (them)! Ye will never penetrate them save with (Our)
sanction.
SHAKIR: O assembly of the jinn and the men! If you are able to pass through the regions of
the heavens and the earth, then pass through; you cannot pass through but with authority.
KHALIFA: O you jinns and humans, if you can penetrate the outer limits of the heavens and
the earth, go ahead and penetrate. You cannot penetrate without authorization.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a
smoke (to choke): no defence will ye have:
PICKTHAL: There will be sent, against you both, heat of fire and flash of brass, and ye
will not escape.
SHAKIR: The flames of fire and smoke will be sent on you two, then you will not be able to
defend yourselves.
KHALIFA: You get bombarded with projectiles of fire and metal, and you cannot win.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment:
PICKTHAL: And when the heaven splitteth asunder and becometh rosy like red hide -
SHAKIR: And when the heaven is rent asunder, and then becomes red like red hide.
KHALIFA: When the sky disintegrates, and turns rose colored like paint.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin.
PICKTHAL: On that day neither man nor jinni will be questioned of his sin.
SHAKIR: So on that day neither man nor jinni shall be asked about his sin.
KHALIFA: On that day, no human, nor a jinn, will be asked about his sins.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their
forelocks and their feet.
PICKTHAL: The guilty will be known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and
the feet.
SHAKIR: The guilty shall be recognized by their marks, so they shall be seized by the
forelocks and the feet.
KHALIFA: (This is because) the guilty will be recognized by their looks; they will be
taken by the forelocks and the feet.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: This is the Hell which the Sinners deny:
PICKTHAL: This is hell which the guilty deny.
SHAKIR: This is the hell which the guilty called a lie.
KHALIFA: This is Gehenna that the guilty used to deny.

YUSUFALI: In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!
PICKTHAL: They go circling round between it and fierce, boiling water.
SHAKIR: Round about shall they go between it and hot, boiling water.
KHALIFA: They will circulate between it and an intolerable inferno.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of)
their Lord, there will be two Gardens-
PICKTHAL: But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens.
SHAKIR: And for him who fears to stand before his Lord are two gardens.
KHALIFA: For those who reverence the majesty of their Lord, two gardens (one for the jinns
and one for the humans).

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Containing all kinds (of trees and delights);-
PICKTHAL: Of spreading branches.
SHAKIR: Having in them various kinds.
KHALIFA: Full of provisions.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free);
PICKTHAL: Wherein are two fountains flowing.
SHAKIR: In both of them are two fountains flowing.
KHALIFA: Two springs are in them, flowing.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two.
PICKTHAL: Wherein is every kind of fruit in pairs.
SHAKIR: In both of them are two pairs of every fruit.
KHALIFA: Of every fruit in them, two kinds.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the
Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).
PICKTHAL: Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both the gardens
near to hand.
SHAKIR: Reclining on beds, the inner coverings of which are of silk brocade; and the
fruits of the two gardens shall be within reach.
KHALIFA: While relaxing on furnishings lined with satin, the fruits are within reach.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?
055.056
YUSUFALI: In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or
Jinn before them has touched;- PICKTHAL: Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither
man nor jinni will have touched before them.
SHAKIR: In them shall be those who restrained their eyes; before them neither man nor
jinni shall have touched them.
KHALIFA: Their beautiful mates were never touched by any human or jinn.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Like unto Rubies and coral.
PICKTHAL: (In beauty) like the jacynth and the coral-stone.
SHAKIR: As though they were rubies and pearls.
KHALIFA: They look like gems and coral.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Is there any Reward for Good - other than Good?
PICKTHAL: Is the reward of goodness aught save goodness?
SHAKIR: Is the reward of goodness aught but goodness?
KHALIFA: Is the reward of goodness anything but goodness?

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: And besides these two, there are two other Gardens,-
PICKTHAL: And beside them are two other gardens,
SHAKIR: And besides these two are two (other) gardens:
KHALIFA: Below them are two gardens (one for the jinns and one for the humans).

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Dark-green in colour (from plentiful watering).
PICKTHAL: Dark green with foliage.
SHAKIR: Both inclining to blackness.
KHALIFA: Side by side.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?
055.066 YUSUFALI: In them (each) will be two Springs pouring forth water in continuous
abundance:
PICKTHAL: Wherein are two abundant springs.
SHAKIR: In both of them are two springs gushing forth.
KHALIFA: In them, wells to be pumped.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: In them will be Fruits, and dates and pomegranates:
PICKTHAL: Wherein is fruit, the date-palm and pomegranate.
SHAKIR: In both are fruits and palms and pomegranates.
KHALIFA: In them are fruits, date palms, and pomegranate.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR: Which then of
the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: In them will be fair (Companions), good, beautiful;-
PICKTHAL: Wherein (are found) the good and beautiful -
SHAKIR: In them are goodly things, beautiful ones.
KHALIFA: In them are beautiful mates.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Companions restrained (as to their glances), in (goodly) pavilions;-
PICKTHAL: Fair ones, close-guarded in pavilions -
SHAKIR: Pure ones confined to the pavilions.
KHALIFA: Confined in the tents.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-
PICKTHAL: Whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them -
SHAKIR: Man has not touched them before them nor jinni.
KHALIFA: No human ever touched them, nor a jinn.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Reclining on green Cushions and rich Carpets of beauty.
PICKTHAL: Reclining on green cushions and fair carpets.
SHAKIR: Reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets.
KHALIFA: They relax on green carpets, in beautiful surroundings.

YUSUFALI: Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
PICKTHAL: Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
SHAKIR: Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
KHALIFA: Which of your Lord's marvels can you deny?

YUSUFALI: Blessed be the name of thy Lord, full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.
PICKTHAL: Blessed be the name of thy Lord, Mighty and glorious!
SHAKIR: Blessed be the name of your Lord, the Lord of Glory and Honor!
KHALIFA: Most exalted is the name of your Lord, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
